Our fictional assistant starts every sentence with “I”. It loves lists, regrets rain and understands a lonely sock. The sock appreciates the tone but wants to know what was understood. The laundry basket requests an example.
Anthropomorphism here means attributing human characteristics to a system. The NIST generative AI profile addresses human–AI configuration risks and recommends examining anthropomorphisation in interfaces. Warm phrasing alone does not establish emotions or intentions.
To describe an observation, replace “the AI wants” with an observable action: it proposes, sorts or rewrites. Then consider which data, instructions and functions might explain the result. This leaves room for uncertainty without treating the reply’s style as testimony about its author.
Satire can give a toaster ambitions: that belongs to the fictional agreement. An explainer returns to observable behaviour. Our robot may dream about holidays in a column; the dream is neither a scientific discovery nor a confidence received from a machine.
