Prepare an AI task without exposing data

Decide which information is necessary before sharing it. Removing a name does not always make a record anonymous; combinations of details may still identify a person or disclose a confidential situation.

Method

1. Classify the information

Identify personal data, confidential documents and access credentials. Check whether the task is authorised and whether another person’s information is involved. Do not submit secrets to create a more realistic example.

2. Reduce the input

Use a fictional example or only the relevant non-confidential extract. Remove identifiers and unnecessary rare details. Keep the original separately so the prepared copy can be checked.

3. Check the service and output

Read the provider’s actual terms and settings for the intended use. Verify who can access the data and what retention applies. Check that the response does not reproduce details that should not be shared.

Example to adapt

Use a fictional customer record with invented names and rounded values to design a reply template. Do not include account numbers, contact details or any real case narrative.

Checklist

Checks stay on this page; ticking a box does not automatically validate the result.

Deliverable

An authorised, reduced input and an explicit record of excluded information.

Limitations

Pseudonymisation is not a guarantee of anonymity. If confidentiality cannot be assured for the task, use a different workflow rather than relying on a prompt.

Sources for further reading and checking

These independent resources help you find a reference. Check the language and scope: a French resource may not describe rules in another country. These are not sources automatically consulted for generated answers.
