The fridge announced a revolution: every shelf would get a dashboard. Carrots received a crunch indicator; yoghurt, a career target. The cheese refused the new terms, arguing that it already had quite enough character.

The household AI suggested a recipe using every leftover. On paper it was impressive: nothing was wasted, including the paper. Asked for a variation, it removed the comma between “soup” and “packaging”. Confidence remained excellent.

An egg proposed an older method: open the door and look inside. Innovation received the suggestion. Three meetings later it returned as participatory visual inspection, with an app requiring a photograph of the egg.

That evening, dinner was decided around the table. The fridge was invited but preferred staying plugged in. This fiction does not settle the future of connected cooking. It simply records that the cheese read the small print first.
